Success4All Celebrates the Arabic Language & Culture With Hilton Primary Academy

Thanks to the support from Qatar Foundation International, 54 Year 2 students from Hilton Primary Academy were provided with the opportunity to learn about the Arabic language and culture through a series of activities.

The activities, which took place on Monday 17th April 2023, were led by Asma Mohammed and overseen by Success4All.

At the start of the day, the children learned how to greet each other in Arabic and later engaged in a series of discussions that highlighted the diverse dialects of the Arabic language and culture.

The children were surprised to discover that Arabic is a language spoken by over 400 million individuals worldwide, and it contains nine unique sounds not found in English. Although some students struggled with pronouncing the sounds, they all put forth their best effort and eagerly participated.

Asma also introduced the Islamic calendar and explained the differences between the Islamic and Gregorian calendars to the young students before learning about two of the main celebrations in Muslim celebrations; Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.

After the presentation & discussion, the students took part in a series of interactive and hands-on activities, which can be broken down into 5 activities:

  • Calligraphy
  • Geography: Identifying Arabic-speaking countries in Africa and Asia
  • Islamic Calendar
  • Writing exercise
  • Quiz
25 out of 48 students had achieved full marks in the quiz

All the pupils left happy and with small toys as a gift for their participation.
